DESIGN ESM
As the expectations suggest that the numbers of cities inhabitants will reach 68% in 2050 and the number of personal vehicles is will reach two billion in 2040, there is an urgent need to develop and improve other ways of transit (like shared mobility) to serve the increasing demand. Despite the growth of shared mobility, it still a niche market. What holding shared mobility from taking its full potential can are trusting the shared items, Adaptations, Market domination, Car culture, not suitable for every scenario, no adaptive for every location and the design of the vehicles might not be suitable for sharing.
This master project had been done by five mane iterations, where I done research in the first two iterations. which resulted in concept direction. followed by another research the concept direction was evolved into a mobility service concept. In two rounds of research with users the mobility service concept where turned into FALCON MOBILITY.
THE research
The first research iteration.
Since this project was not sponsored by a company that can support the research phase, I started to search for information by looking for citizens who are involved in a similar topic or involved in the decision making. That gave the chance to expand my network and gain the support of many of my owners. Keeping them in the loop was also one of my goals to gain their trust more, which can be turned into a partnership in the future.
The outcome of the research was that the user is still out of the loop, and they are not involved directly in the decision making. Furthermore, that what hold people from adopting shared mobility is that shared mobility has a lack of freedom, and it is not guaranteed. On another aspect, it does not provide the private space for individuals how are sharing the vehicle. On the other hand, participant where expecting shared mobility to be fun, high tech and fancy.
THE CONCEPT DIRECTION
The input provided by the participants and the stakeholders points directly to the need of shared mobility service that maintains the privacy of the occupants and a shared vehicle that encourage sharing within a closed group like family or friends by providing a social space for their activities.
USER CENTERED
The second research iteration.
Involving people into the design process is one of the missing elements in the development of other shared mobility services. Therefore during the Dutch Design Week, and in collaboration between Smartwayz.nl, Gemeente Helmond, BSD, Creative World Form (CWF) and I, a co-creation session were organized.
The co-creation session in combination with a survey (that had been done on a different time slot), I was able to test the ideas created and gave me a clear insight what individuals are looking for and expecting from shared services and vehicles. The user input had enabled to define the business model, type of service, and design of the car.
FALCON MOBILITY
Falcon mobility is a mobility service that focuses on providing users with a unique experience while being mobile.
The experiences provided are highly customisable and personalised for the users as they will be extended through different platforms and mobility mediums, which guarantees an outstanding experience that owned vehicles cannot provide.
The prior experiences provided by FALCON MOBILITY are private and social, which will cover the feeling of freedom, guaranteed mobility, safety, and many more by enabling users to have access to different experiences and different mobility mediums at any time.
Therefore, FALCON MOBILITY will link to its service other mobility services and harmonies experience, which creates a cross-platform experience.
To fulfil the need of different segments, FALCON MOBILITY will deploy three types of subscription models on three other price points and three vehicles.
As mentioned previously, the service will allow the user to choose between different experiences. The vehicles will be configurated by different brands like Spotify, Zara, IKEA, etc. It does not only provide more experience, but other brands can fully sponsor some vehicles or journeys.
