Mid term prototype
THE CONCEPT
The whole system is tied together by our assistant: Cortana. Cortana works like other personal virtual assistants that take voice commands and can perform tasks for the user like adjusting settings in the car, keeping track of agendas and suggesting actions.
What makes Cortana unique is that in an autonomous mode it takes centre stage as the embodiment of the auto-pilot by unfolding on top of the dashboard in a spherical form, representing itself as a thinking and ‘living’ being. Studies suggest that a driver has more trust in an autonomous car system when the system is transparent, and the AI is more human-like.
Therefore Cortana will show what it is thinking on its interface: in the centre, it shows what it sees on the road and the route it plans to take, on the outer edges it shows was its focal point lies and a subtle movement to suggest liveliness.
ONE STEP FURTHER
I believe that great technology or great ideas should always have an aesthetics values. Therefore, I started a styling design process to insure the highest level of integration between the technology and the vehicle.
